📍Hangawi🥘 The Best of NYC Restaurant Week Series 2023 🌆

🍃 Vibes and Ambiance

For the next restaurant, we are going to explore Korean cuisine. Located in Ktown in Manhattan, Hangawi is a lowkey upscale vegan restaurant with a creative selection of modern Korean gourmet dishes. Although located in perhaps one of the busiest neighborhood in Manhattan, the ambiance here is very tranquil, perfect for a friends get together. The decor here is also super rustic, giving very unique and inspiring atmosphere.

🧫 Dishes

For starter: Steamboat

To start with, we have a mini veggies hotpot served with mungbean pancakes. The mini hotpot has a very light and herbal soup with fresh ingredients. It’s a tad spicy and flavorful. The pancakes are super delicious and fluffy, sweet and nutty from the mungbean.

Main: Bulgogi

As Hangawi is a vegan restaurant, for the main course, we have plant-based bulgogi with shiitake mushrooms. The bulgogi is tofu-based and so very unique in taste: sweet, chewy, tender and juicy are words that come to mind. The bulgogi was perfectly accompanied by the buttery and earthy mushrooms. Everything was seasoned just right, with the smoky and grilled flavor complemented by a subtle combination of spice.

Dessert: Mocha

For dessert, mocha cake served with a scoop of rich vanilla ice cream. To wrap up the somewhat light plant-based menu is the richer mocha cake and creamy ice cream to balance the palette. With hints of caffeine accompanied by the much sweeter taste and strong vanilla aromas of the ice cream, this was a great way to close out dinner for me.
